I’m incredibly excited to announce that RapidWeaver 6 will be launching in just one week’s time, on October 21st. To help you get ready for RapidWeaver we’ve updated the RapidWeaver webpage’s feature list - and over the coming week, you’ll likely hear from lots of third-party developers as they issue updates to their addons in advance of the RapidWeaver 6 launch.
RapidWeaver 6 will be compatible with OS X Mavericks and OS X Yosemite. This enables us to bring you the latest and greatest OS X features, and with over 80% of the active RapidWeaver user-base on Mavericks, we’ve made sure that RapidWeaver is built especially for the most recent OS X releases.
RapidWeaver 6 is a paid upgrade - and as always, we’re going to be offering upgrade pricing via our store. You’ll be able to upgrade to RapidWeaver 6 from any older version of RapidWeaver for $39.99 - while new customers will be able to pick up a copy for $89.99.
On October 21st, we’ll be emailing customers who’ve bought RapidWeaver in the last couple of months to offer them a free upgrade - full details on the “grace period” can be found on our Help Desk.
What About the Mac App Store?
RapidWeaver 6 is our biggest app with a incredibly loyal following, and we’ve been making sure that RapidWeaver 6 is fully ready for the Mac App Store. However, given the size of the launch, and our desire to ensure that customers are able to easily contact us if they need help with their move to version 6, we’re not going to be offering RapidWeaver 6 on the Mac App Store just yet.
To be clear: RapidWeaver 6 hasn’t been submitted to the Mac App Store yet, and we’re focusing on launching RapidWeaver 6 directly to ensure that we can offer preferential upgrade pricing to our most loyal customers. RapidWeaver 6 has been built with App Store submission in mind (and is fully sandboxed), and we have no doubt that it’ll pass through App Review with flying colours. We’re simply holding off, for now, to ensure that we can remain in full control of the launch, support, and our first few updates to RapidWeaver in the coming weeks.
How to Upgrade
Over the course of the next week, we recommend that you make sure your third-party plugins and themes are up to date. Some plugins are ready for RW6 right now (Stacks, for example), and all your other favourites will be ready by launch. If you want to prepare for RapidWeaver 6, you can find the latest versions on the Addons area.
Themes will migrate to RapidWeaver 6 without any changes - though we do have some new Theme features and additions that can be added.
You’ll need new versions of your plugins for RapidWeaver 6, as it’s a 64-bit-only app. The good news is that, in the majority of cases, your plugins will automatically copy from RapidWeaver 5 to version 6 without any hassle if you’re running one of the recent updates - so, be certain to download the very latest versions today if you’re unsure.
We’re incredibly grateful to have such an amazing community of users and developers for RapidWeaver: the interest in RapidWeaver 6 has been amazing, and next week’s big launch is just the beginning of our renewed focus on RapidWeaver.
